At Sunday’s annual Berrigan Show, Andrew Horne was presented with the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW Agricultural Shows Award.
The Agricultural Shows Award recognises the contribution made by exhibitors, competitors and volunteers at each NSW Agricultural Show with the recipient receiving a medallion.
Berrigan Show committee member Andrew Horne was presented with his medallion by Royal Agricultural Society of NSW Councillor Sarah Hanlon during the show’s official opening.
“The award recognises those who have made a significant contribution in line with the vision to educate our community on the value of sustainable agriculture” Ms Hanlon said.
Mr Horne was recognised for his long-standing commitment to not only the Berrigan Show Society but to agricultural shows across NSW.
He joined the Berrigan Show Committee in 2006, having been a keen competitor in cookery since primary school.
Whilst not based in the local area, Mr Horne returns to Berrigan every October long weekend to assist with the annual Berrigan Show.
His role extends from being the cookery steward in the pavilion on Saturday, to directing trade displays and entertainment early Sunday, stewarding the novelty events including Decorated Gumboots and Wheelbarrows, assisting the secretary and treasurer, and returning on Monday to count ribbons and collate entry forms.
“During the year Andrew is a great sounding board for the committee with his governance knowledge, has assisted with the proofreading of the schedule, and aiding in the writing of grants” Ms Hanlon highlighted.
In 2017, Mr Horne joined the RAS of NSW Youth Group and has attended the Sydney Royal Easter Show each year since stewarding in sheep and wool, goats and dairy.
Mr Horne is an active member of the AgShows NSW Group 5 where he attends various local shows helping with young judging competitions.
