Anytime Fitness takes on the push-up challenge

Echuca’s Anytime Fitness will host its annual push-up challenge in support of essential mental health services from June 1 to June 24.

Anytime Fitness Echuca club manager Sharon Briscoe said the challenge was a way of giving back to those who struggled with mental health issues and the mental health services that provided assistance to them.

“It’s about acknowledging, raising awareness and just getting the conversation about mental health out there.”

Ms Briscoe said the challenge was tailored to all body types and fitness levels.

“There is a target goal of 3139 push-ups but people can actually opt in to do 25 per cent, 50 per cent, 75 per cent or 100 per cent of that target goal,” she said.

“If you don’t want to do push-ups, you can instead take on squats or lunges, so the challenge really is for everyone. Anyone can participate and customise it to their own abilities.”

Ms Briscoe said individuals who chose to take on the challenge did not have to fundraise but had been encouraged to if they could.

“People have the option to choose which mental health service the raised funds can go towards within the Push for Better Health Network, such as Lifeline and Movember,” she said.

As an incentive to get community members to sign up, Anytime Fitness Echuca is permitting all non-members who register for the challenge to come in and utilise the gym to do their push-ups.

“Help us to raise awareness and funds for mental health by getting involved in the challenge,” Ms Briscoe said.
