Anzac Day breakfast tradition returns

About 1000 egg and bacon rolls are expected to be cooked at a breakfast for the public after Shepparton’s Anzac Day dawn service.

The Shepparton RSL sub-branch’s Gun Fire Breakfast will be back this year after not being able to be held for the past three years due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Organisers are hoping it will be bigger and better than ever.

Shepparton RSL sub-branch appeals officer Bruce Davis said the last time the breakfast was held in 2019, 800 egg and bacon rolls were sold to members of the community who had gathered.

With the tasty breakfast treats running out that year, organisers have planned for a bigger breakfast this year, with 1000 egg and bacon rolls to be available.

Shepparton RSL sub-branch will have help from Shepparton Lions Club, Shepparton South Rotary Club and Shepparton Sunrisers Kiwanis Club members to cook the breakfast.

The Gun Fire Breakfast will be held in the Shepparton RSL car park straight after the dawn service, which finishes about 6.30am.

“The more the merrier,” Mr Davis said.

“We are hoping to see as many people as we can.

“This will be the place to go after the service for something to eat.”

Bacon and egg rolls will cost $2 each, with all proceeds going to the welfare of war veterans.

On the day, people will have to buy a ticket for the breakfast from a stand outside the RSL before lining up to grab their meal.

Mr Davis said he was pleased the Gun Fire Breakfast was able to be held again this year.

“It’s good to be back,” he said.

“People missed us and were looking for us.”
