Heathcote police are appealing for witnesses after a large white, semi-trailer failed to stop when directed by police near Heathcote on August 24.

Police responded to calls reporting the semi-trailer driving erratically towards Tooborac along Seymour-Tooborac Rd about 5.10pm.

A short time later, police found the vehicle on the Northern Hwy travelling towards Heathcote. Police attempted to intercept the semi-trailer before it turned left on to Heathcote-Redesdale Rd.

The truck was later discovered abandoned on a small track opposite Fenneys Lane in Benloch. The driver is yet to be located.

Anyone who saw the semi-trailer or has dash-cam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au

Truck parking concerns

Concerns have recently been raised regarding illegal truck parking.

A six-hour joint police and Mitchell Shire operation ran from 11pm on Friday, July 1, to 5am on July 2, resulting in 15 infringement notices issued.

One infringement was issued in Beveridge, while the drivers of seven heavy vehicles parked at Taylors Lane in Wallan were also issued with infringements. Another four were issued infringement notices in the Wallan township.

There were two infringements in Kilmore and one in Broadford.

The parking of trucks in residential areas impedes drivers’ visibility and the noise in the early hours of the morning impacts local residents.

Keep your plates safe

Seymour police, in conjunction with Mitchell Shire, will be giving away one-way number plate screws on Saturday, November 20, from 9am until 3pm at the Woolworths car park in Seymour.

Offenders often use stolen plates to avoid identification when committing serious offences such as petrol thefts, drug trafficking and burglary.

Come along to get free one-way screws fitted to your number plates and help prevent crime in the area.
