Finley Hospital's new worker accommodation units.

Health homes complete

Two months after arriving in Finley, new homes for health staff are now complete.

The modern accommodation units in Finley, and others in Narrandera, received the final touches last week.

It is anticipated they will be occupied from early in the new year.

Murrumbidgee Local Health District is one of three regional local health districts to benefit from the NSW Government’s $45.3 million investment to deliver accommodation for health workers under the Key Worker Accommodation (KWA) Program.

The modular units were manufactured offsite, with six new units located in Finley and three in Narrandera.

The connection of services, furnishing, fencing, and landscaping has recently taken place to ensure the units will be fit-for-purpose.

Molotov cocktail attack

Molotov cocktails were thrown at a Shepparton home in the early hours of Sunday, December 15.

Shepparton Crime Investigation Unit Senior Constable Trevyn Pinto said glass bottles filled with some sort of accelerant were thrown at a house in Sunrise Crt about 2.20am.

The bottles shattered on the ground, starting a fire.

There was minor damage to a vehicle parked at the property, as well as the front window of the home.

The occupant extinguished the flames before calling 000.

No-one was injured in the incident.

Stranger danger awareness

Parents and teachers are reminding students about ‘stranger danger’ after an incident at an Echuca school on Monday.

Twin Rivers Primary School explained a student had been approached prior to school.

“The student is safe and the incident is being dealt with; however, we ask all students and families to be hyper vigilant both before and after school,” the school said.

“Please speak with your child about being vigilant and safe when travelling to and from school.”

Moama Football Netball Club member Alexis Gregor has been drafted to the AFLW.

Geelong loved what they’d seen from Gregor in the lead-up to the draft.

So much so that they pounced on the tall utility at 10th overall on Monday night.

Gregor has made the most of her draft year, named co-captain of the Bendigo Pioneers and missing only a single game with illness in 2024.

Averaging 14.7 disposals, 4.3 marks and 4.8 tackles, she was named joint runner-up best and fairest for the Coates Talent League outfit.

Gregor also joined Vic Country at the under-18 National Championships, playing in all three games and averaging 12 disposals, 2.7 marks and 2.3 tackles.

She rounded out the season suiting up for Carlton in the VFLW.
