ASHEfest was held over three days, from Wednesday, September 7 to Friday, September 9, with News photographer Holly Daniel taking in all of the action.

ASHEfest is a celebration of sport and culture held over three days, with over 1500 students participating in the event at Rumbalara Football Club, Shepparton Showgrounds and Shepparton Sports Stadium to learn about First Nations culture.

The event started with ‘Asheletics’ for primary school children on days one and two, featuring multiple running events and football programs.

Secondary school students participated in a Buroinjin challenge, a ball game played by the Kabi Kabi people of southern Queensland, on days one and two.

The final day included a celebration of the culture and teachings of First Nations people, with a host of performances for both groups of students.

Co-organiser Seldan Andrews said it was about culture and traditions for all, not just a day for First Nations students.

Mr Andrews said the event would allow students to gain further confidence and develop leadership skills.
