Students across the region are in for a huge three days this week at the annual ASHEfest.

Held by the University of Melbourne’s Academy of Sport, Health and Education, the event will offer students the opportunity to learn about First Nations culture and tradition “in a fun way”.

ASHE student services officer Seldan Andrews said the three-day cultural event was a chance to educate younger generations.

“It’s about our culture and traditions, and not just for Indigenous students,” he said.

Rumbalara Football Netball Club will host Prep to Grade 3 students on Wednesday, September 7 and students in Grade 4 to 6 on Thursday, September 8 for ASHEletics.

Secondary school students will participate in a buroinjin challenge, a ball game played by the Kabi Kabi people of southern Queensland.

The days will feature arts and craft activities, traditional storytelling and dances, a sausage sizzle and games, plus the appearance of local football players.

ASHE students will deliver the festivities and games to more than 1500 students from 22 schools in the Goulburn Valley.

Mr Andrews said it would allow the students to gain further confidence and open them up to leadership skills.
