Applications for the latest round of the Victorian Government’s Creators Fund are now open and northern Victorian creative professionals are encouraged to paint quite a picture in their responses.
The creative research and development program funds between $20,000 and $50,000 for six months of intensive experimenting that leads to career-defining creative work.
There are also dedicated streams for First Nations creatives, deaf creatives and creatives with a disability.
State Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes believes the Creators Fund provides creative professionals with the most important and scarce resource: time.
“In any industry, innovation requires dedicated time for research, experimentation and development,” she said.
“Devoting time to this vital work can be a challenge for many northern Victorian independent creatives.
“The Creators Fund is an important pillar of the Victorian Government’s investment in the creative industries, backing our creative innovators to break new ground and level up their careers.”
Since its launch in 2018, the Creators Fund has supported almost 160 Victorian creatives statewide, working in all creative fields — whether it’s arts and crafts, music, literature or digital games.
Previous recipients include industrial designer Nyein Aung, whose grant supported the design of a new bed for palliative care use, and screenwriter Alexander Swords, who developed a method for narrative design in games that is now used by developers across the globe.
Applications for the 2023 Creators Fund close Wednesday, February 22 at 3pm, and the deaf and disability stream closes Wednesday, March 1 at 3pm.
