A masterpiece gracing the Murrumbidgee Council chambers walls in Jerilderie.

Be awed by an incredible mural gracing the walls of the Murrumbidgee Council Chambers in Jerilderie.

Barundji/Barkindji artists Elsie Black, Gertrude Gittens, Eileen Ballangarry and Sos Hawkins created the massive 8mx4m masterpiece.

These women can trace their family back at least 700 years as direct matriarchal descendants of the tribe.

The name means ‘coming together’ and was created to welcome visitors for the 2000 Olympic Games.

It was to provide a visual welcome to visitors for peace and safe travel.

It was also hung in Parliament House during the games.

The painting depicts various Aboriginal design elements including the Eaglehawk, which is the Barundji/Barkindji totem and a white feather to symbolise safe travel.

Be sure to stop in to the Council Chambers at 35 Jerilderie Street, Jeriderie.

Viewing is by appointment only. Call 1300 676 243 or 5886 1200 to book a time.
