After its great success in 2023, the Balaa Creek Festival is back on for 2024.

Held at Louis Hamon Park in Nurmurkah on Saturday, March 16 between 11.30am and 9pm, the festival is organised by the Nurmurkah Love Our Lifestyle group.

The group, whose mission is to support local businesses and bring tourists into the area, is running the event to celebrate regional life and the Nurmurkah community.

Nurmurkah Love Our Lifestyle president Cathy Palmer said last year’s event drew people from all over the region.

"Last year was a huge success despite the weather. We had numerous people from out of town, and we hope to attract the same again," she said.

The family-friendly 2024 event will include a giant jumping castle and slide, the iconic bucking bull, a 10-metre rock climbing tower, soft archery, face painting and an animal patting area.

There will also be live entertainment all day from local artists, food stalls to suit everyone’s palate, and a licensed bar.

For those wanting to buy a special something there will be market stalls.

Ms Palmer said many of the Nurmurkah social groups and the Moira Shire Council had supported the event and that the festival was deliberately designed to be affordable for all and allow people to relax and connect.

“We don’t have a lot of events in our region which makes the Balaa Creek Festival an occasion for the community to get together," she said.

A fireworks display will close the day. Ms Palmer said the 2023 pyrotechnic display was a massive highlight.

“The fireworks are still talked about to this day as the best ever,” Ms Palmer said.

Entry to the event is an optional gold coin donation. The rides are $10 per child (free for those under 5) or $25 for a family, which will allow users unlimited use of rides.

Ms Palmer said the festival was the perfect opportunity to kick back and relax in beautiful surroundings.

“The festival’s location is beautifully positioned along Balaa Creek, with plenty of big trees and lots of room to throw down a picnic rug and enjoy a great day out with family and friends,” she said.

“It’s a stress-free day. The kids of all ages are well-catered-for, and so are the parents.”
