The town of Barmah held its annual Barmah Muster Woodchop Showdown on Saturday, April 27.
The woodchopping began at 10:30am and ran throughout the day, there was also a hoedown later on with live music, licensed bar and a bonfire.
The event featured an array of champion wood choppers going head-to-head in a variety of competitions including, Victorian Title Standing Block Chop, Women’s Woodchop, Victorian Title U18 Championship Block, Australia’s Only Red Gum Events and Tree Felling Demonstrations.
The competition drew numerous high-level woodchoppers including 2019 Individual World Champion and 2016 World Champion trophy winner Brayden Meyer and 2018 Individual World Champion Laurence O’Toole.
Local axe legend Doug Rosenow was thrilled with how the event turned out, hosting people from all over Victoria to witness the wonders of woodchopping.
“The event was absolutely fantastic; it was a brilliant day,” he said.
“It’s always a good event, the woodchop people come from far and wide, and when they hear the axe going people come to it.”
Mr Rosenow also highlighted the effect the woodchop and muster events have on the community and how it is a fun day out for the whole family.
“It’s a great event for the whole family to watch some world championship calibre competitors,” he said.
“It’s demonstrating a part of country life, and we need that, it brings the community together.”
