Batman has put his crime-fighting on hold, taking time out to deliver lollies to kids and adults affected by the floods across Greater Shepparton.

This is all of the work of Pete Bonnes, who dresses up as Batman to bring smiles to young and old alike during tough times in Shepparton, including the current flooding crisis.

His latest effort has even attracted a national audience, with Channel Nine's Today Show speaking to Mr Bonnes yesterday morning.

Mr Bonnes has been a youth worker for over 30 years and is a great lover of helping children.

“I thought this situation was made for my expertise with cheering up kids dressing as Batman and just to give kids some joy during this tough time,” he said.

He said the community had been a great help as he delivered lollies to all groups, from sandbaggers to Australian Defence Force personnel and, of course, kids.

“I have been overwhelmed with the support from the community; I thought I was only going to give a few lolly bags, but Kmart came and helped out with giving off three trollies worth to give to the crowd,” he said.

He said support came from far and wide, with GV Vets and Office Choice also lending a hand with delivering the lollies.

“Just like to say thank you to all who have helped over the past few days. It has been great,” he said.

Mr Bonnes will take the Batmobile to all parts of the Goulburn Valley once the water recedes.

“First I will stop in Mooroopna because they did it tough and then hopefully travel around the region, including Seymour as well, to spread joy to all,” he said.

Riding to the rescue: Batman will be making trips to all corners of the Goulburn Valley once the waters retreat.
