Be a part of Shrek the Musical

Preparations taking shape: Echuca-Moama Theatre Company stalwarts Mark Thomson, Tamara Cadd and Darcy Elliott are directing the new production of Shrek the Musical. An information night will take place on Tuesday, December 13 for people interested in being part of the show.

The big, green, ugly ogre is coming to a theatre near you!

Echuca’s Paramount Theatre, in fact.

Echuca-Moama Theatre Company is back after the COVID-19 pandemic put a hold on its annual musical productions.

But it returns next year bigger than ever, with Shrek the Musical.

EMTC stalwarts Darcy Elliott, Tamara Cadd and Mark Thomson have taken on the task of directing the hilarious show, which will be open to adults and children over the age of 12.

After having to cut short last year’s production of Little Shop of Horrors, the directors are excited to finally have a show on the table and plans under way to put members back on the stage and performing a show for the community.

For Darcy, the decision to do Shrek was a no-brainer.

“However, we had to go through the process as a committee and organisation and assessed all the pros and cons, as we do for all show selections,” he said.

“The biggest thing we had on our side for Shrek was the resource of people, as we hadn’t done a show for quite some time.

“We are in a position where we have a lot of members wanting to help and jump on board, which isn’t always an easy feat. That, combined with the eagerness of performers wanting to do a show, we knew we couldn’t go small, so it was big or nothing.

Shrek ticked all those boxes. It’s big, it’s funny, it’s inclusive of all ages and it’s all those things to not just those involved but those wanting to watch.

“It’s a household classic movie and something the whole family can enjoy.”

With so much interest already gathered, Darcy said it was exciting to begin working on this project with fellow members and friends Tam and Mark.

“We are looking forward to building our dream team to put on a show that will deliver a real bang and reignite amateur theatre in our region. We cannot wait,” Darcy said.

Anyone interested in being part of the show is encouraged to attend an information night on Tuesday, December 13 at 7pm at the EMTC Simmie St shed.
