With roadworks causing increased traffic volumes along Verney Rd, Shepparton, drivers are urged to be cautious around school crossings.

When school returns later this month Greater Shepparton City Council is asking road users to be mindful of children and school crossing supervisors.

Council is undertaking safety improvement intersection upgrade works at New Dookie Rd and Wheeler St, which has seen traffic reduced to one lane in each direction.

As a result, traffic flow has been impacted, in particular at the intersection of Hawdon St, Verney Rd and Balaclava Rd.

Council’s school crossing supervisor at this site is in place to ensure parents and children can cross safely to attend nearby schools. Motorists travelling through this area are reminded to be mindful of pedestrians and other road users.

Council will be increasing school crossing supervisor resources at this intersection to improve pedestrian safety while the roadworks are under way.

Motorists are reminded to follow the traffic signals in place when travelling through the area and remain patient during peak times. Council thanks residents for their co-operation and continued safety on the roads.

The intersection upgrade works are expected to be completed by the start of May.
