Two nationally renowned bands will perform at the Benalla Art Gallery this October.

On Saturday, October 5, the gallery will play host as the acclaimed Victorian duo ZÖJ present their concert, Where Are You From?

Featuring Gelareh Pour on voice and Persian kamancheh and Brian O’Dwyer on drums, ZÖJs performance explores identity, place and the bridging of cultures.

The concert comes after the duo recently won the Art Music Awards’ Award for Excellence in Experimental Practice.

ZÖJ’s music invites audiences to challenge the notion of a singular identity, question whether we genuinely belong to just one place, and ponder what it means to belong.

Gelareh Pour’s kamancheh, voice and poetry blend seamlessly with Brian O’Dwyer’s drum kit, creating a dialogue between Iranian and Australian landscapes.

On October 26, the gallery welcomes violinist Jonathon Glonek and pianist Nicky Poznak to present works celebrating nocturne form and expression.

This concert forms part of a series of public programs complementing the Nocturne: Benalla Art Gallery Collection, which explores interpretations of the theme ‘nocturne’, explicitly focusing on the scenes, sounds and movements ‘of the night’.

The program will include two large works: Cesar Franck’s Faure Romance for Violin and Piano and Gabriel Faure’s Faure Romance in A Major for Violin and Piano Op. 13, while a thrilling selection of miniatures and nocturnes by Chopin and Debussy will provide a wondrous contrast for the second half of the program.

Tickets can be booked directly through the gallery or at www.benallaartgallery.com.au
