Known for her rich tones and ability to get to the heart of a tune, Ms Bornstein’s performances champion music from across the globe, sharing timeless stories from diverse cultures.

The performance will celebrate music from iconic television and movie soundtracks.

Singing in English, French, Italian, Spanish, Yiddish and Portuguese, Ms Bornstein will perform songs drawn from classic films and acclaimed TV series including Six Feet Under, The Sound of Music, The Wizard of Oz, Schindler’s List and more.

From the swinging It’s a Good Day to the haunting Oyfn Pripetshik, the program features diverse composers including Peggy Lee, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Maria Grever, Keren Ann, Luiz Bonfá, Bruno De Filippi and more.

Joining Ms Bornstein will be virtuosic guitarist Nathan Slater and bassist Philip Rex, one of Australia’s finest jazz musicians.

The concert is staged in partnership with the Melbourne Recital Centre, the award-winning live music venue.

Since opening in 2009, the centre has been a major contributor to Australia’s vibrant musical landscape.

The centre is testament to the passion, vision and generosity of Melbourne’s music community.

Benalla Art Gallery director Eric Nash, said it was a pleasure to be able to rekindle a partnership with the centre.

“We have enjoyed presenting many concerts with the Melbourne Recital Centre in the past, most recently in 2020 when we hosted Masahide Kurita and Kenji Fujimura.

“The impacts of COVID on live events and particularly the gallery and music sectors halted plans for other concerts in recent years, but it’s great to work together again.”

Director of programming Marshall McGuire said the centre was delighted to be able to share the love of music with all Victorians once again through its touring program,

“(We are) particularly delighted to be partnering with Benalla Art Gallery to present Jackie Bornstein and ensemble,” Mr McGuire said.

“The combination of sparkling performers, a dynamic venue and an engaged audience is sure to provide an unforgettable experience for audiences of all ages.”

Melbourne Recital Centre’s Regional Touring Program is made possible thanks to the generous support of the Gailey Lazarus Foundation.

Tickets are $35 for members and $45 for non-members. Numbers are strictly limited, so advanced payment and registration is essential.
