In October 2022, bushwalking clubs across the north-east hosted the annual Federation Walks Weekend at Wangaratta Showgrounds.

Benalla Bushwalker Beverly Thornell said during that weekend, its members joined counterparts from the Warby Ranges Bushwalking Club to lead groups on a series of walks showcasing the region.

“To celebrate the success of that event, both hard-working clubs recently decided to arrange a social day at John Gehrig Winery in Oxley,” Ms Thornell said.

“A group of about 40 bushwalkers enjoyed a chat and exchanged notes over drinks and nibbles on the expansive deck of the winery, overlooking the gardens, creek and wetland.

“Thanks to the organisers, the lovely spring weather and the perfect choice of location, this event was voted a great success.”
