The Lions Club of Benalla is partnering with Bendigo Bank Benalla and Bertallis Bakery to raise money for the Australian Lions Foundation Flood Disaster Fund.

It will be holding a sausage sizzle outside Bendigo Bank on Bridge St on Friday, March 25, with all money raised going directly to those who need it.

Benalla Lions Club member David lowing said the Australian Lions Foundation Disaster Fund was there to help anyone affected by a disaster.

“It could be for any disaster from fires, to an earthquake,” Mr lowing said.

“It’s beholden to all Lions clubs to support it as much as they can, especially in times of need.

“It is activated whenever a disaster occurs.

“For example during the 2020 bush fires at Corryong, our district V6 came on board, and the Australian Lions Foundation came on board to supply some big tanks to be put on water lines.

“Those were there for firefighting and to be a water supply for burnt out residents, so they could come and get water when they needed it.

“This time, of course, we are supporting the flood-relief effort.

“So we’re doing the barbecue off our own backs and all the money raised will go to the foundation to be distributed.”
