It was a pleasant surprise to Benalla’s Kylie Mort when she learned that she had received yet another award for her commitment to education and teaching.

Kylie has built a career mentoring students, winning awards for her tuition service and several books she penned.

In 2022, she also produced a free education app (How to Write with Kylie Mort), a finalist for a Best Product Innovation award.

Kylie’s business, Benalla Private Tuition, grew to a fully staffed shop on Carrier St before the COVID pandemic forced her to move her services online.

She said moving the business online had the unexpected result of opening her services up to more clients.

“This includes seriously ill children through the Ronald Macdonald Learning Program and the ‘Bridging the Gap’ program also run by Ronald Macdonald House,“ she said.

This week, she was recognised with a Quality Business Award as the top-rated tutoring service in the Benalla region for 2023.

“The award is judged on businesses that conduct their day-to-day efforts with the highest integrity and have shown a continuous trend of giving back to their local community,” Kylie said.

Knowing that it can be difficult for some families to afford private tuition, Kylie offers several free resources through her app and the study guide accompanying her book Little People Big Emotions.

“It is no secret that we should be reading to our children,” Kylie said.

“Not only does it promote literacy and learning, but it also creates security and connection instantly, and your child feels important, special, safe and loved.”

Little People Big Emotions is a multi-award-winning illustrated novel that promotes self-worth, resilience, confidence, and a sense of belonging and empowerment.

The How to Write with Kylie Mort app was developed as an essay writing platform that assists young people in getting the personalised help they need to focus on their writing, formatting, and synthesising capabilities.

It walks users through writing for various genres with easy-to-use Q&A-style questions that lead to a fully formatted and downloadable document.

Covering VCE English, secondary and primary school writing, business development, poetry, letter writing, creative writing, study management, time management and even Maths, the templates available are ever-expanding.

If you or your young people are not in a position to receive private tuition please access Kylie’s free resources via www.kyliemort.com.au, or find out more on Instagram @Kyliemort22.
