Benalla’s taxi drivers have joined forces to form a co-operative, offering a 100 per cent local service, run by local people.

Benalla Taxis has joined forces with Australia’s number one taxi company, 13cabs, to utilise its sophisticated dispatch service to ensure passengers can quickly and easily book a taxi.

The new system started on Wednesday, February 8, allowing passengers to either call on the existing number, 5762 3333, or book a taxi through the 13cabs website or app.

Benalla Taxis driver Mark Goodley said the new fleet boasted seven vehicles, including two maxi-taxis for passengers with a wheelchair.

“We service Benalla and surrounds, and love the area,” Mr Goodley said.

“The former owner allowed us to form a co-op which makes our service truly local.”

When booking through the 13cabs app — or by ringing the 13cabs main call centre on 132 227 — anyone in Benalla or surrounds will automatically be connected with a Benalla Taxi.

Greg Hardeman from 13cabs said its modern booking app was designed to help local taxi services give their residents and customers a great deal.

“We are delighted to work with Benalla Taxis, and in turn, help the people of Benalla,” Mr Hardeman said.

“13cabs now offers a great service to people in the north-east of the state, including Shepperton Echuca, Wangaratta, Wodonga and now Benalla.”

You can download the 13cabs app at Apple or Google Play stores.
