Goulburn Valley Health and Hume Rural Health Alliance (HRHA) have announced the implementation of a fully consolidated Patient Administration System across 14 health services in the Hume region.

The new system introduces a region-wide patient identifier to improve the continuity of care for patients.

This implementation is considered one of the most complex undertakings of the Patient Administration System to date.

GV Health Chief Executive and HRHA Executive Committee member Matt Sharp said the new system will improve patient outcomes and safety, as they access various health services across the region.

“Our digital health experts, dedicated health staff from health services across the Hume Region and leaders have now embedded this major change within the health services in the Hume Region,” he said.

“They have kept the vision of improved patient care at the heart of our digital health transformation program and all the work we do."

Hume Rural Health Alliance Chief Information Officer Neelu Kaur said HRHA is pleased to deliver a connected Patient Administration System for the first time in the Hume Region's history.

“This is a great achievement which has been realised through collaboration,” she said.

“We are looking towards the future investments in digital health to bridge the healthcare gaps in our regional communities.”

To prepare for the introduction of the new Patient Administration System, HRHA has trained about 2500 staff across a 40,000 square kilometre region.

The Hume PAS Connect initiative combines multiple digital health projects to enable health services in the Hume Region to connect to state and national eHealth initiatives, supporting patient safety and the flow of clinical information both regionally and more broadly.

The initiative involves health services including Albury Wodonga Health, Alexandra District Health, Alpine Health, Beechworth Health Service, Benalla Health, Corryong Health, Goulburn Valley Health, Mansfield District Hospital, NCN Health, Northeast Health Wangaratta, Seymour Health, Tallangatta Health Service, Yarrawonga Health and Yea and District Memorial Hospital.
