Greater Shepparton City Council’s bin collection frequency changes start this week, starting with Kialla and Tatura collections.
The alterations, which were flagged by council last year, mean the green-lidded bin will be collected weekly and the red-lidded bin collected fortnightly.
Yellow-lidded bins will continue to be picked up fortnightly.
All remaining households in Greater Shepparton will adopt the new schedule later in the year.
Council will hold local events across the municipality and answer questions online this week to help residents adjust to the move and answer questions.
Greater Shepparton City Council infrastructure director Gary Randhawa said the changes would help improve Greater Shepparton’s waste disposal practices.
“The changes form part of a state government initiative to help reduce waste across the entire state,” he said.
“Many other councils within Victoria have already made the change in frequency collections.
“We understand this is a big change, but know residents in Kialla and Tatura are up to the task.
“This is all about making improvements now to ensure we have a better future in reducing our waste.”
The changes take effect in Kialla from Thursday, March 16, and in Tatura from Wednesday, March 22.
Red and green bins will be collected on each of those dates.
Council’s resource recovery team will respond to specific questions via the portal on the Greater Shepparton City Council website at https://bit.ly/3y9v32M
Residents considering upsizing their red lid bin from 80 litres to 120 litres, are being encouraged to discuss their options with council by emailing council@shepparton.vic.gov.au or phoning 5832 9700.
In-person information sessions are on at Kialla Lakes from 6pm to 7pm on March 14, at Riverside Plaza from noon to 1pm on March 16, in the town centre of Tatura on March 22 from 11am to noon and at Victoria Park Lake in Shepparton on March 17 from 6pm to 9pm and March 19 from 4pm to 10pm.
