Shepparton voters have taken to the polls on state election day with one Shepparton family speaking to News at the Orrvale Primary School election booth on Saturday.

First-time voter Tegbir Kaur said before she voted she felt she was “a bit lost” and said there should be more discussion around climate change.

“I was a bit lost,” Ms Kaur said.

“We have had floods, regional Australia has been affected by climate change and with Mathew Guy, you go to his website and there’s no mention of the environment.”

She said the current Member for Shepparton Suzanna Sheed had not acted in the best interests of young voters and said “this election in particular has been Daniel Andrews versus Mathew Guy that doesn’t matter for us”.

“The current candidate that we’ve had hasn’t been listening,’’ she said.

“I care about the person who’s actually going to go and hit the ground running.’’

Her mother Jyoti Saroop said she was thinking about the “here and now” issues affecting her family when she cast her vote.

“We’re looking at what’s happening, in Shepparton in particular, this town needs a lot to be done especially the hospital and the school,” she said.

He said there was no clear plan in place for Shepparton’s future.
