Blackwater events in the Broken and Boosey creeks

Blackwater in the Boosey Creek at Tungamah visibly killed fish last week.

Goulburn Broken CMA and its partners are monitoring blackwater events in the Broken Creek, west of St James and the Boosey Creek, downstream of Tungamah.

The blackwater was caused by heavy local rainfall and high flows which washed debris into the creeks.

Local landholders have reported dead fish in the creeks in response to the blackwater, including Murray Cod and European carp.

The blackwater coming down the Boosey Creek was expected to enter the Broken Creek at Katamatite last week.

Where possible, water for the environment will be delivered down the Broken Creek to improve water quality.

The GB CMA will continue to monitor the situation with partners including Goulburn-Murray Water and Parks Victoria.

The community is encouraged to report fish deaths to the EPA on 1300 372 842.
