Veronica Blackwell has received a very high honour.

After her long-standing service to the RSL at numerous branches, Mrs Blackwell has been recognised with the National Certificate of Merit with Gold Badge.

Presented to her on November 21, Mrs Blackwell said she was so shocked by the award that she couldn’t even give a speech.

“I was so flawed to receive this award,” she said.

“It was so unexpected and so nice to be recognised.

“I really appreciate everything the RSL has done.”

A long-serving member, she has been a part of many RSLs during her time, including Bexley in NSW in 2003, a social member at Bendigo from 2008 to 2016, and an affiliate member at Numurkah for a short period before joining the Shepparton RSL in 2017, where she remains a member today.

Alongside her husband, Paul Blackwell, they have both been helping run the Goulburn Valley Veterans Centre as volunteers, with Mrs Blackwell working there as the receptionist three days a week.

“I would love to thank the RSL from the bottom of my heart,” she said.

“I greatly appreciate all the support the RSL gives our centre.”
