Preservation: The Andrews Government has announced that community organisations will be able to access funds to preserve local history.

This program is history in the making.

Victorian Government Services Minister Danny Pearson has announced that community organisations can access up to $15,000 to preserve and share local history in a new round of the Local History Grants Program.

Its purpose is to foster the preservation, recording and sharing of Victoria’s history.

“Whether it is for the digitisation of records, the publication of local history stories or an upgrade to a museum, the Local History Grants Program ensures that the stories of our past are available for future generations,” Mr Pearson said.

Recently the program funded 40 projects across the state, allowing local history to be more accessible.

Recipients included the Nagambie Historical Society, which was awarded $11,258.50 for essential upgrades to its museum.

Other projects previously funded include websites, oral histories and podcasts, interpretative signage, collection cataloguing and Auslan translations.

Applications for funding can be lodged at prov.vic.gov.au

Applications for grants close on Monday, January 30.

Turn back time: Oral histories, interpretative signage and collection cataloguing are some of the projects funded under the Local History Grants Program.
