A lake in Greater Shepparton is the subject of a blue-green algae warning.
Greater Shepparton City Council has detected high levels of blue-green algae in Craigmuir Lake in Mooroopna and is advising the public to avoid direct contact with the water. Warning signs have been placed around the lake, which will remain open to the public for activities not involving water contact.
Council recommends that people and pets do not enter the water, and those who come into contact with affected water should wash immediately with clean cold water. The water should not be used for cooking, drinking, washing or showering, as boiling will not make it safe.
It is not possible to predict how long the algae will remain at high levels. Council is continuing to monitor the situation at Craigmuir Lake.
