Bonanza winnings donated to Nav

Diggers owner Megan Sutton, Bernadette Werner from Navorina, Deniliquin Pastoral Times general manager Leesa Muir and Navorina resident Lorna Breen.

“Who can I donate it to?”.

That was one of the first things Lindsay Green asked after being told his entry ticket was plucked from the Golden Bunny Bonanza barrel on Friday afternoon.

A regular visitor to Deniliquin for shopping, Mr Green said he would prefer to see the $100 prize go to someone else who needed it.

While being given a list of local organisations who may benefit, one stood out for Mr Green.

He asked the Pastoral Times to present the voucher to Navorina Nursing Home.

It was gratefully accepted by lifestyle co-ordinator Bernadette Werner, and resident Lorna Breen.

“On behalf of Navorina’s residents, staff and our board, I want to thank Lindsay for his generosity.

“We have lots of things on our wish list, and we may even be able to buy a number of them with this donation.

“Whatever we get, it will be for the benefit of the residents.”

Mr Green’s winning entry was from Diggers Country Outfitters.

Store owner Megan Sutton said she was pleased to hear one of her customers had won, and then kindly donated the money on.

Mrs Sutton said while trade has been “up and down” over the past few weeks, she expects Christmas shopping to start ramping up from now on.

And she urged people to support local businesses when it does.

“If our businesses don’t receive local support, a lot of them would no longer be here,” she said.

“We need to keep the shops we have open, and the more shops we have in town, the better.

“The businesses here have it all if you look hard enough. And if you can’t find what you’re after, ask, and they might be able to get it in for you.”

The Golden Bunny Bonanza is a Deniliquin Pastoral Times initiative, supported by the Deniliquin Business Chamber and other local businesses.

To be in the running for one or more of these prizes, all you have to do is support our local businesses.

Shoppers are rewarded for every $20 spent at a participating business, up to a maximum of 10 tickets per transaction.

We’ve already given out $500 in Deniliquin Business Chamber Why Leave Town Deni gift cards to local shoppers, with another $5000 still to be won.

You have two weeks to get your shopping done and earn as many entry tickets as possible, with the final three draws to take place on Friday, December 20.

The final three prizes are worth $500, $1500 and $3000.

Tickets should be submitted in the entry box at the business you supported, or can be placed directly in the barrel at the Deniliquin Pastoral Times office.
