The history of radio across the region was celebrated when Ian Lea’s latest book was launched on Saturday afternoon.
Mr Lea has painstakingly researched and written the history, which goes back 90 years.
He launched ‘90 Years Of Radio History in Deniliquin and Echuca’ under a marquee beside the Ace Radio studios in George St, Deniliquin.
Mr Lea explained how the book came to be published, and thanked the many people who had helped make this possible.
He has described the book, the process of putting it together, collecting documents and many phone calls as a “trip down memory lane”.
The result is a book that not only contains detail on past radio station owners, but also a ‘personalities’ section which includes numerous people who have worked in local radio over the years.
The book is now available to purchase from Deniliquin Newsagency & Bookstore, Ace Radio (Deniliquin and Echuca) or from Ian Lea on 0418 468 857.
It was published with the help of Garry Baker from Baker Writing Services and Pastoral Times creative manager Rebecca Flisher.
At the launch, a number of people shared stories of their time on local radio.
Ace Radio general manager Angela Parker said she was pleased with the afternoon’s celebrations and the book launch.
“It's a significant milestone for local radio in our town, and I am so thrilled to be part of this chapter.
“Former staff from some time ago, to ones who only left recently, as well as current staff and friends of the station were in attendance,” she said.
