Students from Katamatite Primary School joined Katamatite Lions for the official opening of the Katamatite Boosey Creek Bunyip mural on Monday, August 21.

The mural comprises multiple panels and depicts the story of the Boosey Creek bunyip.

The bunyip, named Rinaldo, was the creation of artist Murray Ross and his grandchildren along with students from the school.

“My grandchildren live in Katamatite. Years ago, they used to tell me stories about how an imaginary bunyip lived in the Boosey Creek. So we decided to make a story,” Mr Ross said.

That was several years ago and fast forward to 2023 and Moira Shire Council and Katamatite Lions joined forces to help fund the mural to officially tell the bunyip story in the hope of drawing tourists to the area.

Year 6 students Heidi Fitzgerald and Amira Marks said they were fans of the new art installation.

“I think it’s actually really quite cool. I find that really fascinating how the story works,” Heidi said.
