Bourchier St Primary School students have won a big prize in a national competition.

Prep students won a share of $20,000 worth of classroom stationery in the national primary school competition called ‘Sticking Together’, part of the Aussie of the Month program.

As part of the competition, students were invited to share how they stick together in their classrooms, school and community through words or photographs that reflect the Australian values of ‘fair go’, ‘mateship’, ‘respect’ and ‘inclusion’.

The school’s winning entry touched on how they stick together by pairing Prep students with Year 6 students in a buddy system to help the younger students develop their reading comprehension.

“Congratulations to the Bourchier St Primary School students for their fabulous entry,” National Australia Day Council chief executive Mark Fraser said.

“Their entry captured a wonderful sense of friendship and love of their school community.”

The prize included erasable gel pens, refillable whiteboard markers, refills, erasable highlighters and Sellotape safety dispensers donated by Pilot Pen Australia.

Aussie of the Month recognises outstanding contributions to the primary school community and broader society and is delivered in partnership with the Department of Home Affairs and the National Australia Day Council Network.
