A team of Berrigan Public School students will be “braving the shave” this month, to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation.
Team Captain Jack Magill was keen to be a part of the World’s Greatest Shave, because his grandmother Wendy Henderson is a recovered leukaemia patient.
“I want to raise as much money as I can to help find a cure for my Nan, and so it doesn’t happen to anyone else,” Jack said.
Jack has a team of school mates joining him and they are all going to be bald come May 13.
The shave event will be held at the school as part of the school’s SRC Crazy Hair Day festivities.
Other students facing the clippers are Year 6 students Taylor Thornton and Tom Baxter, Year 5 student Hudson Ware, Year 4 student Maddie Kortum and Year 2 students Paddy Arnold and Kobe Smith.
“Berrigan Public has some mighty mullets in the playground currently, but none more spectacular than Paddy Arnold’s,” organising teacher Emma Phillips said.
“I have been pestering Paddy for a long time to use his mullet to help the school raise a large amount of money for the Leukaemia Foundation, and finally he agreed!”
As the only girl to be shaving her head, Maddie said she is happy to lose her beautiful locks for this wonderful cause.
“I want to shave my head to raise lots of money to help people with leukaemia,” she said.
“My poppy’s mum had leukaemia and she passed away when he was a little boy.”
The whole team has been busy fundraising and has already collected $6000 for the cause.
They are hoping the community will continue to support them to raise even more money before May 13.
