Strathbogie Shire Council says there will be bridge construction work on Nagambie-Locksley Rd at Charles Creek, leading to the road’s closure from this month until July.

Beginning on March 25, the project will address the bridge’s inability to support projected future traffic volumes and improve safety for all road users.

Located 12km from Nagambie, the bridge’s narrow design, combined with problematic road alignment, has raised significant safety concerns, particularly regarding visibility and speed.

Council administrator Peter Stephenson said years of detailed planning and design had gone into the project.

“The safety of our community and road users is paramount, and while we understand the inconvenience the closure may cause, it is essential for the successful completion of these necessary upgrades,” he said.

Local traffic will still be able to reach Nagambie-Locksley Rd from both directions during the construction phase.

Council has committed to completing the bridge works by July, contingent on weather conditions, and promised to keep the community informed with timely updates as the project progressed.
