Road safety: Roy Parrott is an 85-year-old school crossing supervisor and loves his job.

Greater Shepparton City Council is on the hunt for new crossing supervisors to hit the pavement.

Positions are open in Shepparton, Mooroopna, Tatura and other towns across the region to provide support for existing school crossing sites.

“School crossing supervisors are positioned at multiple locations across the region and are there to assist children and parents to cross the road during busy pick-up and drop-off times,” council director community Louise Mitchell.

Council is looking for people with an interest in the community to fill the positions, and is offering flexible hours.

“Currently we have school crossing supervisors who have been in the job for 10 and 20 years and love everything about it,” Ms Mitchell said.

One being 85-year-old Roy Parrott, who has been in the job for more than a decade.

He said waking up every morning to interact with kids and parents from across the region and making sure they got to school safely was why he did it.

“I love everything about the job,” he said.

“I love the kids and meeting the mums and dads, it’s really heart-warming to do a job like this.

“Age is no limit to becoming a school crossing supervisor — I’m 85 and I’m still going.”
