The MG Car Club of Geelong rolled into the Port of Echuca on Thursday, November 14 to put on a display of their classic British sports cars.

Around 20 vehicles were on show, with a range of models produced from the 1940’s up until the 1990’s.

Tour director and club secretary Roger Phipps said the trip had been wonderful, and the group had enjoyed their first of two nights in Echuca.

“The people have been really good. We’ve just done the paddle steamer, the Pevensey, which was terrific,” Mr Phipps said.

Dinner at the Caledonian Hotel was a highlight of the trip, Mr Phipps said, with hotel staff providing a function room and excellent service for the drivers.

With 50 members joining at the beginning of the club’s annual trip, dubbed the ‘art silo tour’ this year, Mr Phipps said the group helped boost local tourism and contributed to local economies.

The tour’s first stop was in Daylesford before travelling to Castlemaine and Bendigo, then beginning the art silo tour in St Arnaud through to Sea Lake and Swan Hill.

The five-day event ends on Friday, November 15, with stops planned in Rochester, Colbinabbin and Bacchus Marsh on the way back to Geelong.

Discussions will be held in the future to decide the route of the club’s next annual tour.
