The Broken River Painters has declared its Benalla Street Art Festival exhibition at the Scout Hall a big success.

BRP member Peter Thompson said the group’s artistic talent was showcased in various mediums and styles, ranging from pencilled Australian wildlife, pastels and watercolours to botanical studies, stunning acrylic and oil.

“We also had Australian landscapes and delightful portraiture on show,” Mr Thompson said.

“Visitors to Benalla and locals were delighted and, in some cases, overwhelmed by the artistic talents a small town has to offer.

“Many shared compliments about the exhibition, with numerous comments entered into the visitors’ book.”

Mr Thompson said around 25 to 30 local people submitted artworks to the exhibition.

“And we had six paintings sell during the exhibition.“

Mr Thompson said he hoped BRP would be a part of the next Benalla Street Art Festival.

“And we hope to do more exhibitions throughout the year,” he said.

“Now we have a good relationship with the Scouts and access to use the Scout Hall, we’d like to put on about four exhibitions each year.”
