“This community is home and we’re here to stay.”

Echuca Bupa Aged Care general manager Lailani Rose Gulinao-Dorupa has thanked volunteers and emergency service personnel for protecting the home during the recent flooding crisis.

Ms Gulinao-Dorupa said many staff members could not make it in to work or were cut off from the home during the flooding, and so volunteers from the community were called in to help.

Ms Gulinao-Dorupa also thanked members of the CFA, SES and the Victorian Department of Health for their assistance, saying she would often call for specific advice tailored to their circumstances.

Echuca SES unit controller Judy Cantwell accepted a cheque for $5000 from Bupa on behalf of the Victorian SES.

“We’re just so pleased that everyone got through it,” Ms Cantwell said.

“We were not expecting (the cheque) at all, but it will be put to good use.”

Huntly CFA strike team leader Alan Roberts spoke about his team’s journey to Echuca, and how while they were driving, the situation had become of “lights and sirens” severity.

“It’s just good to be able to help people,” Mr Roberts said.

“We’re all volunteers, it was a positive community effort.”
