The Bush Fire Danger Period will start in the Rural Fire Service’s Mid Murray Zone - which includes Jerilderie - on October 1.
With the date fast approaching, the RFS has advised that members of the public are actively burning now prior to permit season.
And Mid Murray says with that comes an increased risk of escaped burns.
“The grass is rapidly drying out and seasonal higher winds have already started, with an increase in escaped fires,” RFS Mid Murray said.
"Remember, safe burning is up to you!
“Ensure you have a fire break of at least six metres around your pile burn and hazard reduction, along with a sufficient water supply.
“Also, don’t forget to notify fire agencies at least 24 hours before you start any burns. Stay safe and compliant.”
Landholders must also notify their neighbours of any plans to burn.
Before you light a fire, go to www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify to learn about your responsibilities and to register your burn.
