The Bush Nipper program is back this Easter school holidays following rave reviews.
The program will run between Monday, April 17 and Friday, April 21 and will take place at Thompson’s Beach to ensure attendees get to experience real life conditions.
For new participants the cost is $100 and for previous participants it is $90.
The program will be run again by Moira Shire Council in partnership with Barooga Aquatic and Recreation Centre.
Students will learn swimming techniques along with water safety, using life jackets and how to survive in various aquatic environments.
The inaugural Bush Nipper program held in January was seen as a great success by parents and participants.
Program participant Olivia Pendlebury, 5, said it was fun and was adamant her favourite part was using the boards.
Barooga Aquatic and Recreation Centre co-ordinator Tim Dooling said the program was a fantastic opportunity and a vital way to prevent tragedy.
“Water safety is important no matter what lifestyle you live and what background you come from,” Mr Dooling said.
“It is an engaging program that keeps things fun but educational about what to do in an emergency whilst teaching the kids about the danger of water and what to do in an emergency.”
Moira Shire Council recreational development team leader Correne Cooper spoke to The Courier and said feedback from the January program was overwhelmingly positive and said the Easter program promises to be bigger and better.
“Our rivers, lakes and beaches are the some of the best things about living in Moira. Making sure our local kids are safe and confident in our waterways is why Moira Shire Council initiated the Bush Nippers program in early 2023,” Ms Cooper said.
