Berrigan Shire Council has confirmed it will hold a by-election to fill its final seat.
With eight seats available, only seven nominations were received ahead of the September 14 local government elections.
It has lead to the automatic election of all seven.
It includes three returning councillors - Julia Cornwell McKean, Matthew Hannan and Renee Pain.
Councillors Carly Marriott, Ted Hatty, Sarah McNaught, Roger Reynoldson and John Taylor all chose to resign at this election.
The four new councillors joining the council are Catherine Healy, Renee Brooker, John Stringer and Kate Ngatokoa.
Berrigan Shire is one of 14 councils across NSW who did not meet the necessary requirements to proceed to the scheduled election.
By-elections for all 14 will be held on the same day, with a date to be determined in consultation with those councils.
“We understand the importance of this process and are committed to working closely with the New South Wales Electoral Commission to ensure that the election for the last councillor takes place as soon as possible after September 14,” Berrigan Shire CEO Karina Ewer said.
"We are eager to resolve this matter quickly so that we can continue to serve our community effectively."
Once all 14 councils have agreed to a new proposed date from the NSW Electoral Commission, a legal instrument will be created to set the election date.
After the Electoral Commissioner has signed this document, the confirmed date will be communicated to the public by both council and the NSW Electoral Commission.
