Cobram Anglican Grammar School year 12 student Cadence Pang has been announced as Cobram District Town Young Citizen of the Year for 2023.
Cadence received the award at the annual Australia Day ceremony at the Cobram Civic Centre in front of a crowd of onlookers that included family and local delegates.
Cadence is well known within the CAGS community for her dedication to her studies and her extracurricular activities.
She is a University of Melbourne Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholar, having been accepted into the program in 2021.
A strong student academically, Cadence will be studying her VCE this year, with her subjects being English, Chinese, Chemistry and Maths Methods. She has already completed VCE subjects in Further Maths, Biology and Psychology.
In 2022 Cadence was declared Victoria’s top International Competitions and Assessments for Schools competitor in the category of Year 11 mathematics.
At the CAGS 2022 awards ceremony Cadence scooped numerous awards, including Year 11 Dux.
Along with her academic prowess, Cadence enjoys badminton and swimming.
She is also a prolific volunteer.
Cadence has been volunteering at Irving House since 2022 where she engages, socialises and provides friendship to residents.
She was also a member of the Cobram CFA Juniors program from 2017 to 2019, during which time she took part in numerous fundraisers.
Last year also saw Cadence win the Cobram Lions Club Youth of the Year competition after an exceptional speech on the use of technology in schools.
Going into her final year of school, Cadence will be balancing her studies with her role as one of the school’s student leaders.
Cadence was typically humble about winning the Young Citizen of the Year award.
“I'm very happy, very honoured to receive this award. Yeah, feeling very blessed,” Cadence said.
Of all her accomplishments, Cadence singled out her work with the CFA Juniors program as the source of her greatest pride.
“Probably my fundraising opportunities I've done with the CFA, raising money for many causes such as the new fire station,” she said.
Asked how she manages to balance all her activities, Cadence was at a loss and said she just does.
