It’s a Cobram institution which is known for its generosity.

Ambience Bakery Cafe on Punt Rd, Cobram, will mark National Volunteer Week with a unique initiative and has asked the region’s residents to come onboard.

Cafe owner Renee Lincoln said herself and staff have organised five pampering hampers to be given out to individuals who have been exceptional volunteers.

“I was informed that there was a volunteer week in May,” Ms Lincoln said.

“So I thought I would go with that and do a celebration of people that do good things in the area that haven’t been noted.”

Ms Lincoln said it was incredibly important to recognise volunteers in the community and giving up their time was not always easy.

The hampers will give the winners a chance to relax and enjoy the goodies.

“I think people that volunteer do a lot for others, but don't look after themselves,” Ms Lincoln said.

Ms Lincoln invites the public to nominate deserving individuals for recognition on Facebook through either a comment on their volunteer week post or via a direct message.

She said there had been a flood of nominations covering volunteers from the SES and Cobram Community House to Meals on Wheels and FoodShare.

“It (the initiative) has taken off better than what I thought it would,” Ms Lincoln said.

“Put someone’s name forward if they personally feel someone’s doing a good thing.”

“I'd love to recognise the people that are deserving.”

Nominees must be within the surrounding area which includes Picola, Tungamah and Tocumwal and Barooga.

Ms Lincoln will select the five winners from the nominations, announcing one winner daily during volunteer week and would like to thank all volunteers who keep the community going.

“Without the volunteers, there’d be a lot of people out there that would struggle even more,” she said.

National Volunteer Week is held from Monday, May 20 to Sunday, May 26.

Nominations close on Friday, May 17.
