The CFA/VFBV State Firefighter Championships are set to return in March, and the CFA is extending an invitation to brigades across the state to participate in the upcoming competition.

The event will take place at Mooroopna Recreation Reserve over two weekends. The Urban Junior State Championship will kick off on March 16 and 17, while the Senior Rural event will be on March 23 and 24.

According to CFA Chief Officer Jason Heffernan, these championships hold a significant place for the CFA and play an integral part.

“The championships offer a wonderful opportunity for our members to engage in friendly competition with their brigade and fellow firefighters,” Mr Heffernan said.

He highlighted the event’s broader community impact.

“It’s a great way for the community to witness our work, and hopefully, we can inspire them to join their local brigades.

“It’s also fantastic for teamwork and comradeship,” he said.

Hannah Logie, a participant from Strathmerton Fire Brigade with eight years of experience in the state championships, described the event as “the best two weekends of the year”.

Ms Logie emphasised the camaraderie at play.

“It’s a great event because you make friends, you get fit and, most importantly, you have a good laugh.”

Highlighting the friendly atmosphere, Ms Logie encouraged potential participants to give it a go.

“What I love most is the people I’m around all day, it’s a really close-knit group. If you’re considering joining, do it, it’s the best fun!”

For those interested in participating, the deadline for brigade registrations is February 18, 2024.

Nominations can be submitted online via the VFBV website.
