Cobram’s Cameron Sneddon, 13, has a challenge ahead of him.
The Cobram Secondary College student is taking part in the Starlight Foundation Super Swim Challenge.
The Starlight Foundation is a charity which works with health professionals to bring fun, joy and laughter to kids in hospital.
The Super Swim Challenge runs from February 1 to 28 and involves volunteer participants setting up their own swimming challenge to raise money for the foundation.
Cameron first came across the challenge on social media and as a lifelong swimmer jumped at the opportunity.
Michelle Sneddon, Cameron’s mother, said that her son was looking to push himself.
“I think he was looking for a challenge and saw that it was a swimming challenge and he believed he could help out.”
Though 28km seems like an arbitrary number Cameron had a perfectly logical reason to choose it.
“Seems like a reasonable challenge of one kilometre a day,” Cameron said.
He aims to raise $1000 for the Starlight Foundation, and with $800 raised at the time of writing this article, he is well on his way.
Asked by The Courier why he wanted to help the Starlight Foundation, Cameron said he wanted to assist kids in need.
“I just wanted to help bring some fun into the world, from one kid to another kid.”
As for what Cameron hopes to get out of the challenge besides the money that is raised, he said a sense of fulfilment.
“Giving is its own reward.”
His family have been nothing but supportive of Cameron since beginning the challenge.
“I think it’s awesome. He’s taking the challenge and gone for it. I’m really proud he is giving it a go,” Mrs Sneddon said.
