Eight Campaspe runners have run their way to the state level of cross country.
The runners were successful at the regional cross country carnival on Tuesday, May 28, qualifying for the state level.
Students from across the region attended, representing Echuca Primary School, Echuca East, St Mary’s Echuca, Twin Rivers Specialist School, St Joseph’s Rochester, Lockington Consolidated, Elmore Primary, St Augustine’s Kyabram, Colbinabbin Primary, Kyabram P-12 College, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Elmore, St Patrick’s Colbinabbin and Rochester Primary School.
Students travelled from around the area to St Arnaud for the Loddon Mallee Region Cross Country carnival.
From Echuca Primary School, Alby Perkins and Tom Arthurson have qualified for the state event, placing first in their 9/10 years and 12/13 years categories, respectively.
St Mary’s Echuca had three runners qualify; Max Atkins and Harrison Farrant for the 11 years boys event, and Emily Parker for the 9/10 years girls.
Ella Forde from Tongala Primary School came third in the 9/10 girls category and Rochester Primary School’s Orly Cuttriss placed second in the 9/10 boys category.
Frankie Hay from Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in Elmore came first in the 10 years girls event.
In the 9/10 boys event, Echuca Primary School’s Alby Perkins waited at the finish line to congratulate Orly Cuttriss from Rochester.
School Sports Victoria shared a photo of the moment on their social media, writing what a great display of sportsmanship it was.
The state competition will be held at Yarra Valley Racing Club in Melbourne on Thursday, July 18.
