The Victorian local government elections will be held in October and conducted entirely by post. To help you make informed decisions on who should be making the big decisions for the Campaspe Shire, Jemma Jones has spoken to all prospective candidates to help people decide whom to tick off on their ballot paper.

The Free Press, Riverine Herald and Campaspe News will be rolling out two candidate profiles each week in the lead up to the election.

Rob Amos has lived in Campaspe Shire for nine years.

He first ran for council in 2020 where he was elected as a councillor for the Echuca Ward before eventually becoming the Mayor of Campaspe Shire in 2022.

He said he was honoured to be selected and in his four years on council they have achieved significant progress and delivered on key infrastructure projects, and seeks to continue that progress if he is re-elected.

Among his issues most important to him are making sure upgrades to roads and footpaths are complete to ensure safe and efficient travel and progress to female change rooms which will need greater attention for the coming four years.

“The council provides over 100 services to the community, and I believe we should stay focused on our core responsibilities rather than getting sidetracked by issues outside our scope,” he said.

He believes that being out and about in the community is one of the most rewarding and effective aspects of his role, and he makes it a point to attend as many events as possible to hear directly from the people and relay those messages in the council chamber.

“Meeting people face-to-face, hearing their ideas and aspirations, and building relationships is something I’m committed to continuing,” he said.

Mr Amos has served in the Australian Army Reserve for 12 years in the CFA including four years as captain of the Echuca Fire Brigade.

Community service is a core value in his family, and one of his proudest moments was serving alongside his daughter in the CFA for the past couple of years, and regularly participating in community events such as Australia Day, Anzac Day, Clean up Australia Day and more.

He said being involved in the community is not just about giving back, but it also enriches his life as well.

He believes that Campaspe Shire is an incredible place to live and work, and since moving with his family he hasn’t looked back.

“This community has given us so much, and we’ve done our best to give back in return… As I like to say, living in the Campaspe Shire truly feels like living in God’s country,” he said.
