Early next year, art lovers will convene throughout Campaspe to tour the studios of some of the shires local artists as part of the Campaspe Art Trail

The event will feature 27 artists from near and far including Rochester artist Sonya Else and Corop artist Edie May.

Working predominantly in the world of textiles, Sonya Else’s love for art began first with sewing and quilting before she discovered textiles in 2005.

Mrs Else said that she loved working with textiles from the moment she first tried it.

“I did a few workshops with some textile artists, and it’s gone from there,” she said.

“This is what I love doing, it’s taken me to my happy place and it's great to have to do, and I feel quite lucky to be able to do it.”

Mrs Else is a part of the Rochy Quilting club and also runs workshops around the region for any organisations that reach out to her.

As part of the Art Trail, she will be displaying some of her old works and running demo’s during the event.

Over in Corop, artist Edie May will be preparing the Corop Sculpture Park for the Art Trail.

The Sculpture Park will also include four trams purchased earlier this year that she hopes to repurpose for other uses.

Before the weekend of the Art Trail, she hopes to have the Studio Tram ready, a space for locals to create art and also showcase her own.

Ms May said she hopes those who visit during the event are open-minded.

“I hope there are people coming from the community who are interested in doing arty things,” she said.

“People who think outside of the box are always welcome here.”

The Art Trail will be a two-day event held on Saturday, February 22 and Sunday, February 23.
