A national treasure has lived and worked in our midst and those at The G.R.A.I.N Store in Nathalia are looking to recognise this man.

Those working there knew William Kelly would refuse any kind of tribute, so they have curated an event exploring the question Mr Kelly has dedicated his life to answering: can art stop a bullet?

The event is a rare opportunity to watch a screening of the documentary Can Art Stop a Bullet, hosted by the film’s director Mark Street.

Other guests will share their insights on the film and connections to Mr Kelly.

Nathalia and District Choir members will perform songs of peace from Japan, South Africa and a special performance of Our House by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.

The event is on at the Nathalia Uniting Church Hall, Chapel St, Nathalia, on Saturday, August 5, the day before the 78th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima.

This is significant as that was the first use of the atomic bomb on citizens as part of warfare, a theme central to the documentary.

Doors open at 5.30pm with the event expected to begin at 6.30pm, with supper provided during intermission.

Tickets are $20 and are available at trybooking.com/events/landing/106998
