On Sunday, March 9, NSW Police responded to reports from Victoria Police of a vehicle entering the Murray River around 9.20pm.
Officers from both sides of the border attended the Echuca East Boat Ramp.
Witness reports were unclear about whether there were any people inside the vehicle, if the incident was an accident, or if the vehicle had been dumped.
A multi-agency response was launched, supported by Roads and Maritime Services NSW, Marine Rescue NSW, Moama police boat, the Marine Area Commander police divers from Sydney, and Victoria Police.
The vehicle was found with no people on Tuesday, March 11 around 3pm.
Police identified the vehicle, a black SUV, which was reported stolen after noon on Sunday, March 9. They believe the vehicle was dumped in the river near the east boat ramp.
The SUV was recovered from the river, with police investigating its theft.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Moama police on 5482 0099 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
