Cast your Greater Murray vote wisely

Tomorrow is an important day for all of us, with the poll in the Murray River Council election being conducted.

Six people, including two women, have nominated for the three positions in our Greater Murray ward.

Candidates in ballot order are: Norman Berger, Joy Allan, Kylie Berryman, Geoff Wise, Thomas Weyrich, Kronrod Nicholas.

In the Moama ward the candidates, in ballot order, are: John Harvie, Graeme Blow, Chris Bilkey, Frank Crawley, Gen Campbell, John Ludeman, Bianca Hurn.

It is essential that with the increased size of the ward voters carefully consider which of the candidates are likely to support our town and district, and which are likely never to be seen again until the next election.

Polling will be conducted at the Business Centre on the Cobb Highway.

Well, the Olympics may be over but recent performances by Mathoura Public School students indicate there could be some future Olympians in the mix.

In particular, performances by ten year old Sophie Eddy indicate there could be a future Olympian among us.

In recent regional competition Sophie won the 100 metres, 200 metres 800 metres and 1500 metres races – AND broke the 1500m record.

Well done Sophie!

If you have $10 and would like to win $500 then get in touch with Anne Robertson.

The Speed Shear group is conducting a competition to finance kids activities during the annual event.

Hand $10 over to Annie and choose a number and the $500 could be yours – but be quick because there are only a few numbers left.

Thank you to Boomer Lewis for his recent reports on social media on the Paralympics Games.

It has been incredible to learn just how many athletes were from our local area ... and how well they performed.

The reports also mentioned the athletes’ families and where they came from.

Well done Boomer – great job.
